Theme #37 for the 100 Themes Challenge.

Kheril nei Kilan (from Oraison d'Être—Nanowrimo 2007), whom I haven't given proper care in... actually, the last time was 2003. Among all the characters I've created for this world, he's probably THE thinker, partly because of his training as an Aequi, whose skills, among other things, involve fast mind computations. Speaking of which, he's wearing the clothes of his trade here (black and deep red); the stone floating above his hand is his kazai, a symbiotic silicon-based organism catalyzer allowing him to channel his telepathic abilities. In his case, it is doubly useful, for his body is usually too frail to stand the tremendous load of energies his mind is able to control.

Regarding his appearance: he's not genetically an albino, but has technically become one after an accident during which said energies destroyed some of his brain cells—notably the ones controlling pigment production, as well as his optical nerves and the brain areas able to receive eye signals. His eyes themselves got hit pretty badly, with both iris and pupil literally turned into crystal matter by the load of Alka (matter) energy. Yes, the poor man is totally blind. To think he used to be a bookworm...

Also, the moon in the background is Falthawen, the smallest of the three moons of Eien. Legend has it that Kazarim (telepaths) all have clear eyes, matching the colour of one of the moons—blue/grey for Idris, light brown/amber for Loreis, and green for Falthawen; Kheril's are of the latter kind.

Not my best piece—and far from it—but I guess I needed to whip up that quickie in order to get reacquainted with this character, so to speak.
