Confined in the helpless safety of desires and dreams
We fight our insignificance
The harder we fight
The higher the wall

Anne Clark, Sleeper In Metropolis -

The basis to this picture is actually one that is 1,5 years old. The lineart for it was a simple doodle, drawn during a roleplay session on New Year's eve end of 2002. I had no particular idea in mind when I had started it, nor was the game we were playing even remotely responsible of it, but it turned out to look a lot like Jen, both physically and "emotionally", so to say. Let's say that at this time, my poor character was at a very bad turn of her life, and completely lost regarding what she was to do; I think my drawing was kind of an illustration of this "feeling", because to be honest, I wasn't too sure myself as a player where these choices I made her do were to lead her/me.

I never completed the picture, but found the doodle again in my old RP sheets recently. I considered putting it in colors, then finally decided on using it as a basis to practise vectors, as it's been a few months I hadn't done so in a freeform style (I'm not talking of what I need to do for work here). I've kept the idea of "Jen", although whether it's really her or not doesn't matter a lot in the end.

I kept on thinking that I should do something more with this picture; but then I reached the point when I felt that adding more would simply spoil it, so... I stopped.

I like looking at the pictures that you make of Jen because you always portray her in a way that I haven't really seen myself. I don't think my chars have really gotten to know Jen *that* well, and what they do know, Jen just doesn't seem that.. I don't know, feminine I guess. But like I said I dont think I really know Jen the character that well.

This is really beautiful. The shading's really smooth and nice.

Jen is a very specific character, I admit, and at times too complex even for me I think! But yes, that's a face of hers that is shown to very few people (partly because I try to be careful and not play her "whiny/poor girl/fragile" part too much... I know it can grow boring, especially if doing that in random places and with any passer-by!). I think you could see it someday though, if in a private enough situation (aka not in a public place, hehe). The rest of the time, she tries to display the face most people know.

I think she's just that... complex. So usually, nobody gets to see all of her at once... ;)

I love that starburst in the background, it really gives the picture a feeling of suddenness. (Is that a word?) Your shading is great and I enjoy the clarity and simplicity that vectors give it. Great stuff! :)

This is really lovely, Yza!

The lines are awesome, the coloring is simply beautiful. I can relate to the feeling you have with this piece, and it brings back some memories for me too. :)

Wowee.. I just love the form here.

The linework is Great, the colors flow nicely, and the shading is really clean.
Not only this but the expression and pose is done very well. Hats off to you on this one.

This is wonderful. It so stylishly done, and the colors are soothing yet dynamic at the same time. I really like the way the horizontal and vertical line work with the burst, all intersecting to create a vision that’s a feast for the eyes. All this, combined with the character’s meditative expression gives the piece a real spiritual feel.
