NEWS

Hark, an update!

I know, I haven't been active in ages. Again. Unless you count the odd comment left on a journal entry, or a deviation, or a fave here and there. But they're not what I'd deem as real "activity".

So what have I been up in the past months?

Well, moving to Scotland.

Because I was tired of France, and of the crappy job opportunities I had there. Let's face it: once you're a teacher, you become part of some muddled mass of "people who don't know the Real World of Real Jobs, and have no idea how to be Productive and perform Real Work". Sad, untrue, but unfortunately the way too many people see us. The only alternative was to apply for another job within the Education Nationale, yet this would have created its lot of problems as well—a.k.a. being stuck in an office job still dependent on mutations, yet with no real possibility to be sent to a place I'd really want to go to (like, oh, for instance, going back to my home area).

In other words, since there's no way I want to wait until I'm 45-50 "in the hopes that things will change someday", I decided to make them change myself, gave the finger to civil service (don't tell me I'm crazy: it's not the golden spot it used to be, not anymore), and left for Scotland.

Of course, now I need to find a job there... but I'll burn that bridge once I've crossed it. Playing the card of "let's pick safe and secure jobs" didn't do much for my personal happiness, and I absolutely refuse to let fear dictate my fate.

In the meantime, I'm enjoying life in Edinburgh, in an old but nice flat that's less expensive than it should be, 5 minutes from the city centre.

Oh, and one of my flatmates is a Whovian. She outed me (and herself) when she pointed out I had a Dalek toiletry bag, complete with Dalek-shaped sponge; in turn, I showed her that the bag screams "EX-TER-MI-NATE!" when you press a button on it. (I'm so totally living up to the fact that I'll never be a Boring Adult of Boringness, thank you very much. :P)

But Edinburgh is a mad god's dream
Fitful and dark,
Unseizable in Leith
And wildered by the Forth,
But irresistibly at last
Cleaving to sombre heights
Of passionate imagining
Till stonily,
From soaring battlements,
Earth eyes Eternity.
